WEEK 1

The set I chose to work with is American Currency from Harvard Digital Collection which consists of 100 banknotes.

To get started, I begin by asking these questions about my set.

In the first experiment, I begin with the sorting process. I sorted them by the value of each banknote.

And for the other group, I sorted them by graphic styling or the layout that made them look like they were in the same set.

In the next experiment, I use subtracting process. Beginning by erasing all the other components and only working with the number. Then, sort them by shape.

For the next one, I also use the subtracting process. I subtract all the components and only focus on images.

Then, recontextualizing them from their original purpose which is a medium of exchange. As doing this, I begin to ask some questions about these images.

So I purpose a new way of understanding this catalogue by turning these images into a collection of stamps and history books.
