Methods of Investigating

WEEK 2

The method I chose to develop and deepen my investigation this week is documenting the site by using a peephole as a tool.

I use moving images to show continuity and explore the tool’s limitation, which is a peephole.

I tested different factors to see how each one affects or allows you to see the site from a new angle or new perspective. The factors that are being used consist of different angles, distance, recording speed and the size of the tool.

01

Different angle

Left

The normal angle that my eyes perceive when recorded

Right

The modified angle which has been flip upside-down

02

Distance

Left

The reality when moving closer to the tool

Right

The image that we expected to see when looking through the peephole

03

The recording speed

From slow → normal → fast

The speed affects how we perceive the context; what’s happening at the site in a wide range.

Low speed lets you see or understand just a short specific scenario.

Fast speed provides you with a bigger picture of what’s going on at the site.

04

The size of the tool (peephole)

With the tool being related to privacy and security purpose. It can affect the sensory experiences and lead to the feeling of safety. For this one, for example, the matter of size gives you a sense of visuals that could evoke some emotions.
