Methods of Iterating

WEEK 4

The role of a photocopier is being a fast way to reproduce documents and is often associated with office-related work. It is known for its fidelity and reliability, but what would happen if we completely overlook the word “copy” in its name and make a unique piece of work that looks different from its original form?

From last week’s iteration, after hacking the tool to use it in an unexpected way – a motion maker – I found a new possibility to use the subsystems within a tool

A scanner glass → frame

A line light → time

The interaction with a paper → a way to produce effects

So this week, I continued to develop various effects on an image using hand movements and, at the same time, exploring the possibility within a time to create visual narratives by following the journey of a simple dot to see how a form as simple as a dot can be manipulated and animated

Not only pushing boundaries within a tool but also the image itself

Then, I started connecting “the dot” and creating a visual narrative through the movement

storyboard

Here’s the final outcome which I also experimented with how moving images can be presented

animated by programme
animated by a printer
animated by hands (flip book)
